Industry coalition aims to turn Europe's regulatory framework for stablecoins into greater adoption of the euro in onchain markets, where US dollar stablecoins account for 99% of market value.

PARIS, 5 October 2026: European digital-finance companies, joined by Nasdaq-listed etoro, today announced the formation of the Eurøpe Consortium, an industry-led coalition intended to accelerate the practical adoption of euro-denominated onchain finance.

Stablecoins are an important means of payment and settlement in digital-asset markets, yet approximately 99% of their market value is denominated in US dollars. Euro stablecoins, digital tokens designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the euro, account for less than 1%.

That imbalance can become self-reinforcing. The currencies most widely used for payments, trading and treasury operations tend to attract further integrations, infrastructure and users.

Without greater coordination, European businesses could increasingly use onchain financial infrastructure built around dollar-denominated assets even when the underlying economic activity begins and ends in euros. Onchain finance uses blockchain networks to conduct payments, trading and settlement.

The European Union established a regulatory framework for euro-denominated stablecoins, but the remaining challenge is adoption: distribution, liquidity, integrations and practical use.

No single issuer can create that market alone.

The Eurøpe Consortium is the first European cross-company coalition built around an issued and regulated euro stablecoin, bringing together participants across issuance, distribution, financial infrastructure and blockchain ecosystems.

Its members are predominantly digital-native financial companies already operating across the onchain economy. Together, they bring the distribution, market access, infrastructure and technical capabilities needed to move euro-denominated stablecoins from regulatory possibility to practical adoption.

"The EU established a regulatory framework for euro-denominated stablecoins, but regulation alone does not create a functioning market," said Martin Bruncko, founder and chief executive of Schuman Financial. "Adoption requires issuers, distribution platforms, infrastructure providers and broader financial and blockchain ecosystems to work together. The Eurøpe Consortium brings European financial innovators together to help ensure that the euro plays a meaningful role as global financial activity moves onchain."

Participants include Schuman Financial, Assetera, BLOX, Coinhouse, Coinmerce, DFNS, etoro, LCX, RockawayX, SwissBorg, and XRPL Commons.

The consortium's initial programme will centre on EURØP, a euro-denominated e-money token developed by Schuman Financial and currently available across six public blockchain networks: Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Solana, the XRP Ledger and Plasma.

Participating organisations intend to coordinate work in four areas:

  • Access and distribution: identifying ways to make regulated euro stablecoins available through the platforms European customers already use;
  • Infrastructure and integrations: supporting appropriate connections with wallets, trading platforms, tokenised-asset infrastructure and blockchain networks;
  • Practical applications: developing retail, institutional, payment and tokenised-market use cases; and
  • Market development: coordinating education, communications and engagement with prospective participants.

Each organisation will retain responsibility for its own commercial, technical and regulatory decisions. Consortium participants will support EURØP adoption according to their role, including listing, integration, distribution, infrastructure support or ecosystem development.

"Our community has been able to hold and use EURØP for some time. What has been missing is a coordinated market around euro-denominated assets. I mean distribution, integrations and everyday use. That is what the Eurøpe Consortium is for, and it is why we are part of it," said Cyrus Fazel, CEO of SwissBorg.

"Stablecoins are becoming a fundamental part of global financial infrastructure. As more finance moves on-chain, the euro's role should reflect its strength in the global economy. By joining the Eurøpe Consortium, etoro is helping build the liquidity, distribution and utility needed to make the euro a first-class currency on-chain," said Ouriel Ohayon, Head of Crypto at etoro.

"Our customers trade, spend and save in euros. It makes no sense that the onchain world forces them into dollars," said Jaap de Bruijn, CEO of Coinmerce. "We want euro stablecoins to become a natural part of how our customers manage their portfolio, and that only happens if regulated platforms build this market together."

"Onchain, the dollar outweighs the euro more than 300 to 1, which makes little sense for the world's second reserve currency, which accounts for 20% of global FX reserves," said Viktor Fischer, Founder and CEO of RockawayX, an investor in Schuman Financial. "With MiCA now in force, we expect the next couple of years to be a race to build euro liquidity and distribution. The Eurøpe Consortium brings the right teams together to turn that regulatory clarity into real adoption."

"Euro-denominated stablecoins have a meaningful role to play as digital finance matures, reflecting the economic weight of the euro area," said Odelia Torteman, Head of Digital Assets, XRPL Commons. "Scaling their use depends on coordinated action across the value chain, from issuance and distribution to infrastructure and technology. The Eurøpe Consortium brings these complementary roles together, creating the conditions for euro stablecoins to deliver efficiency and value at scale."

"Euro stablecoins will only matter if they work together: interoperable, liquid and usable across platforms and blockchains. The Eurøpe Consortium is a concrete step toward an open euro onchain market, and Coinhouse wants to help make euro stablecoins as easy to hold, use and exchange as euros in a bank account," said Nicolas Louvet, CEO and co-founder of Coinhouse.

The consortium also intends to engage additional financial institutions, trading and distribution platforms, fintech companies and infrastructure providers.
