What Is the Halloween Bitcoin Vault?

The Halloween Bitcoin Vault is a limited-time SwissBorg vault for people buying their first crypto. When the vault starts, it buys spot Bitcoin for everyone at the same time, then follows three rules set beforehand: a take-profit, a stop-loss, and a fixed end date of 24 December. The exact take-profit and stop-loss prices will be confirmed by 1 November, when the vault's strategy starts, and shown in the app. If the stop-loss is hit, SwissBorg ends the vault, sells the Bitcoin at market price, gives you what is left, plus, for this special vault, refunds your loss, up to $20 per user, in USDC.

Three terms worth knowing:

  • Spot Bitcoin: real Bitcoin bought at the current market price, with no borrowed money.
  • Stop-loss: a price at which the vault automatically sells, to stop losses from growing.
  • Take-profit: a price at which the vault automatically sells, to lock in a pre-set gain.

Like our other Trading Vaults, the Halloween Bitcoin Vault buys and sells automatically using rules that are displayed inside the app. To see how vaults work in more detail, read SwissBorg Alpha Trading Vaults: A Smarter Way to Trade Crypto.

Why Buying Your First Bitcoin Feels Scary

Bitcoin is volatile. Its price can move by 10% or more in a matter of days, and nobody, including us, knows which way it will go next. For a first-time buyer, the hardest part is often the not knowing: when to sell if it goes well, and when to stop if it doesn't.

Most people who get burned in crypto don't lose because of one bad price move. They lose because they had no plan for it. The Halloween Bitcoin Vault gives you that plan from day one, so you know in advance what happens whichever way the price goes.

That makes the first step a lot less scary for you.

How Does the Halloween Bitcoin Vault Work?

Two phone screens from the SwissBorg app: the Invest tab featuring the Not-So-Scary Halloween trading vault, and the Halloween BTC Vault page showing its pool size, timeline and Bitcoin allocation

  1. Open your account: download the SwissBorg app and verify your identity, or log in if you're already verified. Our Getting Started and Account Level 1 Verification guides walk you through it.
  2. Make your first deposit: add at least $200, or the equivalent in your currency, so it arrives in your account by 1 November, 09:00 CET. You can top up with a card or make a bank deposit.
  3. Join the vault: go to the Invest tab and open the Not-So-Scary Halloween vault at the top of the screen. The vault runs in USDC, a US dollar stablecoin, so you join with USDC from your balance. New to stablecoins? Read What Is USD Coin (USDC)? When you're ready, check the vault's term sheet, which sets out the full details, then tap Get Started and confirm your entry before 1 November, 14:00 CET.

As long as your qualifying $200 deposit is in by 1 November, 09:00 CET, you still qualify for the vault. Your Bitcoin is bought on 1 November, when the vault's strategy starts, not when you join, so everyone gets the same entry price. Once you're in, your funds stay locked until the vault closes.

What Happens If Bitcoin Hits the Take-Profit?

The take-profit triggers. The vault sells your Bitcoin, closes and pays out straight away, before 24 December. Any gain is yours.

What Happens If Bitcoin Drops?

This is where the Halloween Bitcoin Vault helps you feel safer. If Bitcoin falls to the stop-loss, the vault sells your Bitcoin, closes and pays out what's left of your position straight away. We then also refund your loss in USDC, up to $20 per user.

What If Neither Happens Before 24 December?

Diagram of how the Halloween Bitcoin Vault works: deposit $200, the vault buys Bitcoin, then it takes profit at $100,000, refunds your loss up to $20 if the stop-loss is hit, or closes at market price on 24 December

The vault closes at the market price on 24 December and pays out the value of your Bitcoin, whether that's a gain or a loss. The refund doesn't apply in this case.

Who Can Join the Halloween Bitcoin Vault?

  • New SwissBorg accounts opened from 22 October
  • Verified accounts that haven't made a deposit yet, activating with their first deposit

If your account has received a deposit previously, you're not eligible. Your first deposit needs to be at least $200, or the equivalent in another currency, made by 1 November, 09:00 CET.
