What Is the Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade? Everything You Need to Know

Ethereum is preparing for its next major network upgrade, known as the Fusaka Upgrade. As one of the most important developments in Ethereum’s roadmap, Fusaka aims to improve network performance, upgrade core protocol mechanics, and lay foundations for future scaling.

In this short guide, we explain what the Fusaka Upgrade is, why it matters, and how SwissBorg is supporting it with minimal impact to your experience.

If you are searching for What is the Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade or How does the Fusaka Upgrade affect my ETH or ERC 20 tokens, this article has you covered.

What Is the Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade?

The Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade is a major network upgrade scheduled for mainnet activation on 3 December 2025. Its primary goal is to significantly increase Ethereum’s transaction capacity while keeping the network secure and decentralised.

At the centre of the upgrade is a substantial increase to the block gas limit, moving from 45 million to 150 million. This expansion allows each block to carry far more transactions, smart contract executions and Layer 2 data submissions. In simple terms, Ethereum will be able to process a lot more activity without slowing down during peak demand.

Fusaka also introduces two important technical improvements that reshape how Ethereum manages data:

  • Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS)
Validators will no longer need to download entire blobs of data. Instead, they can verify smaller samples shared across the network. This reduces bandwidth requirements and makes data verification faster and more efficient.
  • Verkle Trees
A new, more compact way to store and prove blockchain state. Verkle Trees enable smaller proofs and quicker verification, reducing the load on nodes as Ethereum grows.

Together, these advancements aim to scale Ethereum sustainably. The network becomes faster and more capable while ensuring that node operators, validators and developers are not overburdened with storage and bandwidth demands.

The Fusaka Upgrade has rolled out through several testnet phases, including a bug bounty programme with rewards of up to 2 million dollars: Holesky (October 1, 2025), followed by Sepolia (October 14), and concluding with Hoodi (October 28) to ensure the upgrade's stability and performance before its final mainnet launch.

What Does the Fusaka Upgrade Mean for SwissBorg Users?

As with previous upgrades, SwissBorg is supporting the Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade and plans are already in place to minimise any disruption as far as possible.

During the upgrade window, deposits and withdrawals of ETH and ERC 20 tokens may be temporarily paused for short periods. This is standard practice for all exchanges and platforms during major network upgrades, and helps keep your assets safe while the Ethereum network transitions to the new rules.

Trading will remain available during this time. Your assets will remain safe and secure in the SwissBorg App.
